Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef or lamb
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 medium carrots, diced
  • 1 cup (150g) frozen peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups (300g) mashed potatoes (prepared)
  • 1 cup (240ml) beef broth or bouillon
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme or rosemary for seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and sauté chopped onions until translucent. Add minced garlic, diced carrots, and peas; cook until tender.
  3. Move vegetables to one side of the pan and add ground meat. Cook until browned, then mix everything together. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. Stir in broth, salt, pepper, and herbs; simmer for about 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. While simmering, prepare mashed potatoes by boiling peeled potatoes until fork-tender. Drain and mash with butter and milk until smooth.
  6. Spread meat mixture evenly in a baking dish, top with mashed potatoes creating peaks with a fork for texture. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown on top.
