- 1 cup basmati rice
- 1 cup split yellow moong dal
- 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 inch fresh ginger, grated
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 cups mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, potatoes), chopped
- 4 cups water
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Rinse basmati rice and moong dal under cold water until clear; soak for 30 minutes.
- Chop the vegetables into small pieces while the rice and dal soak.
- In a heavy-bottomed pot, heat ghee or oil over medium heat; add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
- Stir in grated ginger and turmeric powder; sauté for one minute.
- Drain soaked rice and dal; add to the pot along with chopped vegetables and mix well.
- Pour in four cups of water and season with salt; cover and cook on medium heat for 20-25 minutes until tender.
