Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp salt
- ½ cup baking soda (for boiling)
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese (for dip)
- 1 cup heavy cream (for dip)
- 1 tsp garlic powder (for dip)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Stir in salt and gradually add flour to form a dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Punch down the dough and divide into eight pieces. Roll each piece into a 24-inch rope and twist into pretzel shapes.
- Boil water in a pot, adding baking soda. Drop pretzels into boiling water for about 30 seconds each, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush with an egg wash (beaten egg mixed with water) and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden.
- For the cheese dip, melt cheddar in a saucepan over low heat, stir in heavy cream and garlic powder until smooth.
