  • 1 tbsp salt
  • ½ cup baking soda (for boiling)
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese (for dip)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for dip)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (for dip)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Stir in salt and gradually add flour to form a dough.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Punch down the dough and divide into eight pieces. Roll each piece into a 24-inch rope and twist into pretzel shapes.
  4. Boil water in a pot, adding baking soda. Drop pretzels into boiling water for about 30 seconds each, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Brush with an egg wash (beaten egg mixed with water) and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden.
  6. For the cheese dip, melt cheddar in a saucepan over low heat, stir in heavy cream and garlic powder until smooth.
