Description
A traditional apple pie featuring a buttery, flaky crust and a rich filling of sliced apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar.

- 6 large Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 6–8 tablespoons ice water
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Mix flour and salt in a bowl, then cut in chilled butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
- Stir in ice water one tablespoon at a time until the dough just comes together. Form into two discs and refrigerate for 1 hour.
- In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Let sit for 15 minutes.
- Roll out the first dough disc and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan.
- Pour the apple mixture into the crust, mounding them slightly in the center.
- Roll out the second disc, place it over the apples, trim the edges, and crimp to seal. Cut slits in the top for steam.
- Brush the top with a beaten egg.
- Bake at 375F (190C) for 45-55 minutes until the crust is golden brown and filling is bubbling.
- Cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before slicing.
