- 10 cups dried bread cubes
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups diced onion
- 1 cup diced celery
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350F (175C).
- Toast bread cubes in a low oven until dry but not browned, then place in a large mixing bowl.
- Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat; sauté onion and celery until translucent.
- Stir in fresh sage and thyme, cooking for one additional minute.
- Pour the sautéed vegetables and butter over the bread cubes and toss gently.
- Whisk the egg into the broth and pour slowly over the bread, stirring until moistened.
- Season with salt and pepper, then transfer to a greased baking dish.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes until the top is golden brown and crisp.
