Description

Crisp Granny Smith apples coated in a vibrant, hard-crack candy shell and finished with whimsical candy eyes for a spooky effect.


Ingredients

  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp food coloring
  • 12 candy eyes
  • 6 wooden craft sticks

Instructions

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry 6 Granny Smith apples, removing stems and inserting wooden sticks into the top.
  2. Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a heavy saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Heat the mixture without stirring until a candy thermometer reads 300°F (149°C).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the food coloring until the color is uniform.
  5. Dip each apple into the syrup, rotating to cover completely, and let the excess drip off.
  6. Place apples on parchment paper and immediately press two candy eyes onto each apple.
