- 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
- 4 cups broccoli florets, bite-sized
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Steam the green beans and broccoli for 3-5 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp; drain and set aside.
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Whisk in flour and cook for 2 minutes to create a roux.
- Slowly whisk in milk, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens and simmers.
- Remove from heat and stir in garlic powder, salt, pepper, and 1 cup of shredded cheddar until melted.
- Combine steamed vegetables and cheese sauce in a large mixing bowl until evenly coated.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Top with the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
