Description

A rich, classic Italian-style marinara sauce with tender, juicy meatballs made from a blend of beef and pork. Perfectly balanced and hearty for any pasta dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (for meatballs)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (for sauce)
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, 1 tsp oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until combined.
  2. Roll the meat mixture into 1-inch diameter balls.
  3. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown meatballs on all sides until golden; remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté diced onion until translucent, then add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, 1 tsp oregano, and sugar. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low.
  6. Add the browned meatballs back into the sauce. Cover and simmer on low for 20-30 minutes until meatballs are cooked through.
  7. Stir in fresh basil and remove from heat. Serve over pasta or with garlic bread.
