- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter (for caramel)
- 1 tsp sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Mix 1.5 cups flour, 1/2 cup butter, and 1/4 cup brown sugar; press into the pan and bake for 15 minutes.
- Sauté diced apples with cinnamon and cornstarch over medium heat for 8 minutes.
- Melt granulated sugar in a pan until amber, then whisk in 4 tbsp butter and heavy cream to make caramel.
- Pour caramel over the pre-baked crust, then top with the sautéed apple mixture.
- Rub remaining flour, butter, and sugar together to make a crumble and sprinkle over the top.
- Bake for another 20-25 minutes until the topping is golden brown.
- Cool completely for 2 hours before slicing into bars.
