Description

A succulent roast turkey featuring a sweet maple syrup glaze and a savory garlic herb butter tucked under the skin for maximum moisture and flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1214 lb whole turkey, thawed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh sage, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325F (165C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, sage, and thyme until smooth.
  3. Pat the turkey completely dry with paper towels, including the cavity.
  4. Carefully separate the skin from the breast meat using your fingers and spread the garlic herb butter evenly underneath.
  5. Season the exterior of the turkey with salt and black pepper.
  6. Place the turkey in a roasting pan and roast for approximately 3 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 145F.
  7. Whisk the maple syrup and melted butter together in a small bowl.
  8. Brush the maple glaze over the entire turkey and increase oven temperature to 350F (175C).
  9. Continue roasting until a meat thermometer reads 165F in the thickest part of the breast.
  10. Remove from oven and let the turkey rest for 30 minutes before carving.
